Corruption and the Fight for Public Trust 

Corruption has long been a bane to public trust in the Philippines. When government officials engage in graft or misuse of funds, ordinary citizens lose faith in their leaders. Each group plays a role in upholding transparency and accountability: – ABKD (Alliance to Guard Peace and Democracy) mobilizes citizens to guard the democratic process and demand clean governance. – PADER focuses on democratic reforms and amplifying people’s voices in governance. – LIPI (League for Philippine Independence) champions national sovereignty and opposes any compromise of our country’s integrity – a stance that complements anti-corruption as both involve defending the public’s interest. – FDNY Movement (Filipinos Do Not Yield) embodies resilience and unity – echoing the famous New York firefighters’ ethos in name – reminding Filipinos never to yield to corruption or foreign intimidation.

Through these alliances, Ka Pep unites various sectors – from youth activists to professionals and community elders – under a common banner of reform. It’s coalition-building in action. By bringing together peace advocates, pro-democracy reformists, nationalists, and everyday citizens, Ka Pep has created a broad grassroots front against corruption. These groups work in their own spheres – monitoring local projects, reporting anomalies, educating communities about their rights – but converge in the shared mission of demanding honest leadership. Ka Pep often highlights that the campaign to end corruption is about “restoration of the dignity of our people”[2]. He has been sighted joining and leading unity walks, anti-graft forums, and even major rallies alongside other reform advocates. During the “Trillion Peso March” against systemic corruption in 2025, for instance, Ka Pep’s voice rang loud and clear in support of citizens demanding accountability in a recent infrastructure scandal[8][9]. “Flood control projects that exist only on paper, padded contracts, and politicians enriching themselves at the expense of the people are unacceptable. The people have had enough,” he stressed, urging Filipinos to stand united and say “enough is enough”[10]. Crucially, Ka Pep framed the rally not as a revolt against government per se, but as a rally for good governance – even commending leaders who take decisive action. “We stand with…leadership in combating corruption… supporting a future where our children will grow up in a country where leaders are accountable,” he said passionately[11].
